The Fruit of the Spirit
Galatians 5:16-26 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. 18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.
To live ( or walk ) in the Fruit of the Spirit is to be Christ-Like.
Love - I know I'm loving when...
- I consider others better than myself: Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
- I do to others what I would want them to do to me: Luke 6:31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
- I pray for my enemies: Matthew5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
- I forgive when wronged: Colossians 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
- I seek forgiveness when I wrong another: Matthew 5:23-24 Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee. 24 Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
- I repay evil with good: I Thessalonians 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
- I seek to serve: John 13:12-17 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and LORD: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your LORD and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his LORD; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
- I share my material goods with those in need and practice hospitality: Romans 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
- I rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep: Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

- I can be persecuted and not be overwhelmed: Acts 5:41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.
- I grow in the midst of trials: James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. 4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
- I do not allow my circumstances to determine my attitude: II Corinthians 6:10 As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.
I Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you. 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
- I see that God can bring good out of evil: Philippians 1:12-20 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel. 13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places. 14 And many of the brethren in the LORD, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear. 15 Some indeed preach Christ even of envy and strife; and some also of good will. 16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds. 17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. 18 What then? notwithstanding, every way, whether in pretence, or in truth, Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice. 19 For I know that this shall turn to my Salvation through your prayer, and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ. 20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.

- I do not fear: John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
- I live righteously and lead others to righteous living: James 3:18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.
- I make wise decisions: James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
- I rest in God's protection: Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
- I seek to bring peace to Christ's body: Romans 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.

- I am confident that God is trustworthy: Isaiah 26:3-4 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. 4 Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
- I am spiritually minded: Romans 8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
- I turn my specific anxiety into specific requests: Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

- I repay evil with good: I Thessalonians 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
- I leave the consequences of a person's actions in God's hands: Deuteronomy 32:35-36 To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste. 36 For the LORD shall judge his people, and repent himself for his servants, when he seeth that their power is gone, and there is none shut up, or left.

- I do not cause the weak to stumble by misusing my liberty: I Corinthians 8:9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
- I see Satan as my enemy and not people: Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Matthew 16:21-23 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. 22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, LORD: this shall not be unto thee. 23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Kindness - I know I'm kind when...
- I'm grieved with the sin of others: Mark 3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
- I associate with the lowly: Romans 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
- I use my affliction to comfort others: II Corinthians 1:4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
- I encourage and build up: I Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.
- I am seeking to stimulate others to love and good deeds: Hebrews 10:24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works.
- I am slow to speak and quick to hear: James 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
- I am hospitable without complaint: I Peter 4:9 Use hospitality one to another without grudging.
- I rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep: Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
- I repay evil with good: I Thessalonians 5:15 See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.
Goodness- I know I'm good when...
- I feed on God's words: Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
- I hunger and thirst for righteousness: Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
- I speak good words: Matthew 12:33-37 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.
- I am angered by sin and injustice: Mark 3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. - I abhor evil: Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
- I overcome evil with good: Romans 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
- I do not fear authority: Romans 13:3-4 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: 4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
- I am comfortable with and attracted to light: John 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
- I am not conformed to world but transformed by Scripture: Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Faithfulness - I know I'm faithful when...
- I worship only the God of Scripture: Matthew 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the LORD thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
- I am pure ( single-minded ) of heart: Matthew 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
- I mean yes when I say yes and no when I say no: Matthew 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
- I am stable: Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock. 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand. 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
- I use what God has given me for His glory: Matthew25:14-29 For the kingdom of Heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. 17 And likewise he that had received two, he also gained other two. 18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his LORD's money. 19 After a long time the LORD of those servants cometh, and reckoneth with them. 20 And so he that had received five talents came and brought other five talents, saying, LORD, thou deliveredst unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. 21 His LORD said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy LORD. 22 He also that had received two talents came and said, LORD, thou deliveredst unto me two talents: behold, I have gained two other talents beside them. 23 His LORD said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy LORD. 24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, LORD, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed. 25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine. 26 His Lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed. 27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury. 28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. 29 For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.
- I share the Gospel: Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in Heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
- I am not distracted by past experiences: Luke 9:62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

- I recognize that I am a partner with God and I have my responsibilities ( obedience to commands ) and He has His ( faithfulness to promises ): I Corinthians 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
Gentleness ( Meekness ) - I know I'm gentle when...
- I am obedient to the Father's will: Matthew 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in Heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
- I am humble: Matthew 23:11-12 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
- I know who I am: II Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. I Peter 2:9-10 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. 10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
- I am known by others as considerate: Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The LORD is at hand.
- I speak graciously and with all salted words: Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
- I correct others to lead them to repentance: II Timothy 2:25-26 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth. 26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
- I feed on God's word: Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
- I learn and practice truth: II Timothy 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
- I am teachable (able to be corrected and trained): II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. 17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
- I am wise: James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.
Self-Control - I evidence self control when...
- I pray when tempted: Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
- I fear God: II Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
- I do not allow sin to reign: Romans 6:12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

- I do not give sin an opportunity: Romans 13:14 But put ye on the LORD Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
- I flee immorality: I Corinthians 6:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
- I look for ways to escape temptation: I Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
- I do not give Satan an opportunity: Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.
- I put on God's armor daily: Ephesians 6:10-20 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness. 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of Salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. 19 And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel. 20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
- I think thoughts honoring to God: Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
